Word Family Sort is an interactive tool that helps students recognize word patterns by having them sort a series of words into short-vowel word families. This website is targeted toward students who need practice with word families k-3 or struggling readers. 2005 IRS/NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English)
http://jc-schools.net/PPTs-la.html This is a fantastic interactive website that was put together by teachers. There are many interactive presentations that can help younger children with their letters, sounds, word families, sight words, blends, diagraphs, r-controlled vowels, short vowels, long vowels etc. These presentations would be very useful to use with a whiteboard. http://www.kiddonet.com/gb/flash/phonics/Intro.html This site is a letter/sound recognition game that is geared toward kindergarten and beginning first grade. This would be a great site for children who need to practice with identifying beginning sounds and is easy to navigate. This site is child friendly and easy to navigate for a young audience.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/wordsandpictures/teachers/intro.shtml The games and activities are designed to help children develop their knowledge of phonics. The games and activities help develop a wide range of strategies to support children in their early years at school. The games and activities on this site are divided into 5 modules which each focus on a different area of phonics work. I especially like the high frequency game, Star Words. Primary games are definitely a fun place to learn. It’s free too! You can choose what phonics skill your child needs to practice. Children will enjoy looking at each picture and dragging the letters into the box to spell the word. They can check their answers too. Copyright © 2000-2011 PrimaryGames, Inc
